Horizontal Action, No 15 (Spring '05) (The) Wendy Kroys Songs about Lust, Revenge and UFOs Who is Wendy Kroy, you ask? The answer is two-fold: it's both the alias of Bridgette Gregory, the drug mongering heronie of the movie The Last Seduction, and the latest project from Caroline (Carolyn) Keddy, rock'n'roll heroine and Maximum Rock'n'Roll writer. This bubblegum pink vinyl full-lenght features very deliberate, rolling sonic landacapes, juxtaposed with surging, electric tidal waves. If you like the early 90s spaced-outness of SONIC YOUTH and the bizarrity of OS MUTANTES, chances are that you'll dig the WENDY KROYS (Missile X) MamimumRockNRoll, October 2004 The Wendy Kroys Songs about Lust, Revenge and UFOs (self-released) .......at last, my second favorite LP this year!!!! And it just so happens to be a local band for a change!!!!! A fully self produced labor of love in the most romantic "do-it-yourself" kind of way ..... complete with some of the best drug damaged music I've heard in years!!!!!! Imagine VOM, DESTROY ALL MONSTERS, INFLATABLE BOY CLAMS ROXY MUSIC, VELVET UNDERGROUND and DEBRIS all tossed together in a big taco salad with my very own creamy white and lumpy love sauce as the special dressing!!!! Let me tell you about the two hot female vocalists ....... they sing with a nasty, sexy and sultry prick tease style that leaves you licking your fingers after sliding them up your very own butthole!!!!! Yes, this is music to do drugs to and to fuck to!!!!!! Both sides end with long nine minute instrumentals for those who can handle the drugs this band is pushing ..... you better belive I CAN!!!!!! To top it all off, Miss Carolyn Keddy is playing the bass on this already classic effort!!!!!! There is very limited edition of only 320 of these records available and they're going quick!!!!!! Don't miss out on what has gotta be on of the best underground records this year ..... hands down!!!! Not bad for a band that has never even played a live show!!!!!! Let's get them out into the clubs where we can all taste their sweat!!!!!! - Shane White |

San Francisco Bay Guardian, February 16-22, 2005
The Wendy Kroys Songs about Lust, Revenge and UFOs (self-released) Only true lovers of trashy rawk and space-cadet stoner pop could produce such an utterly in-the-garage recording as the Wendy Kroys' Songs about Lust, Revenge, and UFOs. It's a ramshackle, screwy tribute to the pure sounds of the Demolition Doll Rods and Holly Golightly, skewed occasionally along the Spacemen 3-Galaxie 500 axis. The guitars of JoJo Kroy, and Damin Kroy (and Kelley!) let's just pretend they're all named Kroy are genuinely rockin' and oft high-flying; the rhythm section (Carolyn on bass and Kelley on drums, keys) specializes in primitive sex-boogie chugalug. Lyricist and occasional (occasional my butt) drummer Carrie K. embroiders the proceedings with loopy, singsong narratives that are irrepressibly cheerful, blithely perverse, and unapologetically smutty. Case in point is "Garden Gimp," a completely groovy little dollop of Stereolab pop concerned with the celebratory rituals of the bondage and leather community:(Actually, it's about JoJo threatening to quit programming and become a gardner. When reminded that he can't tolerate sunlight, he offered to where a full-on pulp fiction gimp suite) "My garden gimp he is so cute / In his latex bodysuit / He's my sweet young ball-gagged mute / La-la la." Other charmers include "Dafoe-a-Go-Go," the not-quite-stalker-fangirl love cry; "He's Dead," a vicious recital of calculated romantic vengeance; and "Bike Messenger Boy," a rather bawdy little number about goat-rutting feminine lust for sweaty pedal couriers. The album concludes with 10-minute-plus space-rawk vamps "Sparkle" and "Saucer's Are Go!" Instead of snappy, smarty lyrics, they include awesome solos with reverb and chorus. The Kroys take their name from Linda Fiorentino's vengeance-minded femme fatale in The Last Seduction. According to the band's Web site, their namesake not only gets away with her mayhem but also even escapes the typical fate of movie fatales: a noble and/or fiery death or romantic compromise. Boozy, leering self-actualization never sounded so good. (Josh Wilson) |
