** Local Calls in other Area Codes

MonkeyBrains numbers has 415, 408, 650, and 510 numbers
You are responsible for any phone charges incurred when connecting to MonkeyBrains. The prudent user will check their phone book or call their phone company to find out which phone numbers are within their local calling area. Long distance phone calls are expensive!

Are you local? San Jose is split into a couple of area codes, parts are local to the 408 number. You used to be an East Bay Rocker. Now, you live in 415. Anyhow, here are the four phone nubmers for MonkeyBrains access:

  1. 415 901 0173 - San Francisco
  2. 510 740 0114 - Oakland
  3. 408 350 0168 - San Jose
  4. 650 227 1960 - San Mateo
** the modems are all clustered together over all those phone lines. New improvement!

Addendum
My 2000 - 2001 phone book no longer has this information. It looks like PacBell decided to make this information harder to obtain -- and their website is quite uninformative -- now you may have to call PacBell at 1-800-310-2355. Restricting informaion from the masses is such the Orwellian un-utopia (1984). Instead, you have to call up Big Brother, listen to their recorded ads, and ask 'Is my phone number a local call - not a local toll - to 415.466.0000?'`

On the Pacbell website (on 2000-Oct-19) all I could find was the distilled graphic below:

Pacbell believes information is powerful. Does this scare them, I wonder? Speaking of scares, all I could find when searching for 'prefix' on the PacBell website was informaion about area code splits, overlays, and mandatory 11-digit dialing. Instead of providing useful information, information to scare consumers is presented. WE SHALL MANDATE 11 DIGIT DIALING IN YOUR HOME TOWN! This reminds me of the media/government: instead of provinding information, the spectacle of violence, destruction, and distraction are presented to the viewer.

With all that said, I hope I didn't freak out all the potential customers with all these details. Basically, you need to figure out if the modems are a local call (aka tollfree) from your primary computer use phone number.
