If you are having difficulty, you may try the settings these values to 0.0.0.0
** DNS should be auto detected by your PPP client as well.

Setting Modification
Luckily -- for both you and me -- getting hooked up to the Internet is easy these days.

You need to know the correct settings, and how to change the networking settings on your computer.

Windows XP
  1. Click on Start, then Control Panel.
  2. Select Network and Internet Connections
  3. Select Network Connections
  4. Select Create a new Connection
  5. The New Connection Wizard window should appear. Click Next
  6. Select Connect to the Internet and the Click Next
  7. Select Set up my connection manually and the Click Next
  8. Select Connect using a dial-up modem and the Click Next
  9. ISP Name MonkeyBrains and the Click Next
  10. Enter the phone number for your area code (leave off the area code part). Next
  11. For User name, enter YOUR_USERNAME@monkeybrains.net
  12. Add your passowrd, and then check
    • Use this account...
    • Make the the default
    • Turn on Firewall
  13. Click Next and then Finish: you are done!
Windows 98
  1. Select "Settings..." in the start menu.
  2. Select "Control Panel".
  3. Select "Network".
  4. Select the "TCP/IP" protocol for your modem.
  5. Click the Properties button.
  6. Enter the values above.
  7. If you are using a modem and phone line (and not a network card and ethernet cable), create a new "Dial-up Connection" and enter the phone number above.

Windows XP
  1. Select "Control Panel..." in the start menu.
  2. Select "Network and Internet Connections".
  3. Choose "Network Connections".
  4. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next.
  5. Select Set up my connection manually and click Next.
  6. Select Connect using a dial-up modem. Click the Next button.
  7. Type MonkeyBrains.net in the ISP Name field. Click Next.
  8. Enter the Phone Number (listed above). Click the Next button.
  9. Enter your username and password. Click the Next button.
  10. Check the box to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop to put an icon on your desktop to this dialup connection. Click Finish.
  11. Plug your phone line into your computer
  12. Click the icon on your Desktop to Connect!
Windows ME
  1. Select "Settings..." in the start menu.
  2. Select "Dial-Up Networking".
  3. Select "Make New Connection".
  4. Make a New Connection with the name "New MonkeyBrains"
  5. Click Next
  6. Enter the phone number you wish to dial
  7. Click OK
  8. Now, you are ready to enter the username, password, and dial
  9. Plug your phone line into your computer
  10. Do steps 1 and 2 and then select "New MonkeyBrains" or whatever you called your new dialup connection
  11. Edit the User name and Password fields to use the proper username and password.
  12. Click Connect!
Windows 3.x Install Trumpet WinSock. Follow the directions for a PPP dial-up connection and use the values above.
Mac OS X
  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
  2. Choose Network from the View menu.
  3. Choose Internal Modem from the Show pop-up menu (the "Configure" pop-up menu prior to Mac OS X 10.1).
  4. Click the PPP tab.
  5. Your user name goes in the Account Name field. If you want the other users of this computer to use the same connection method, select the checkbox for "Save password."
  6. Click the TCP/IP tab.
  7. Choose either PPP.
  8. Leave the DNS server address blank. If you have trouble, try manually adding the numbers above.
  9. Click Apply Now.
  10. Open Internet Connect, located in the Applications folder.
  11. Be sure the Configuration pop-up menu is set to your modem.
  12. Click the Connect button.
  13. Open a Web browser verify your connection to the Internet.

iMac To make a PPP connection via the Remote Access control panel, follow the instructions below.
  1. Open the Modem control panel.
  2. Make sure the port is set to the "Internal Modem" at the top of the window next to Connect via.
  3. Select the "iMac Internal 56k" modem for the Modem pop up menu.
  4. Select sound on and the proper type of Dialing ( tone or pulse).
  5. Open the TCP/IP control panel and select PPP in the Connect via pop up menu .
  6. Select the type of IP addressing ( using PPP server ) in the Configure pop up menu.
  7. Enter the correct Name Server Address (values above) and monkeybrains.net as the Search Domain ( you are not assigned a static IP address ).
  8. Open the Remote Access control panel.
  9. Enter the user name, password and dial up phone number which should be provided by your ISP. (values above)
At this point you should be able to connect using the Connect button in the Remote Access control panel. If there are any problems, try opening the AppleTalk control panel and set the Connect Via choice to Remote Only and try connecting again.

Type "man ppp" in the shell. Refer to the manuals for your version of Unix. I highly recommend buying a manual (in print, not online) for your Operating system. Also, you may find O'Reilly's TCP/IP Network Administration book handy.
Mac
  1. Click the colorful apple in the upper left hand corner.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Select TCP/IP.
  4. Set the top pull-down menu to PPP and manual.
  5. Enter the values above.
  6. More information is availible for OS 8, and other Macs.
  7. Modem users: make a dial-up connection and enter the phone number (either in a Control Panel-PPPconfig menu or the Remote access menu.
