oh it's monday again.... since i now actually have a job job on monday i can say that! tonight is our first critique in the drawing class. we'll see what happens. i have more a mix this time - a mix of "studio" art and "electronic" art students. i think this will actually help.... the first crit is usually the hardest because it's all about setting the tone and the students get a real sense of what you are looking for.... what's expected, what you notice [yes i notice the small things] i have to go get snacks. i always bribe with snacks! [heh heh]
the yellows in the drawings are slowly getting darker... i think there are only 2 left?? it's funny because i look and say - oh no only 2 yellows left - what do i want to do with yellow that i haven't done yet.... when really yellow has been kind of hard... hard to see... hard to think about what to do since the impact is so much more subtle. why does the mind work like that? it's the want what you don't have syndrome....
busy week, but i'm feeling a bit more on track.... thank goodness! i'm actually going to do SPT tomorrow.... and there's the big de young museum re-opening [they've been closed for renovation] thurs. night... there are several events, but this one is the "artist" one [what does that mean?!?!]. i can't figure out what to wear! - but i'm looking forward to seeing the new building!
critique's are always nerve wracking, but I sort of want one now. I think it is easier when you have a bit of a handle on your own voice not to get side tracked with everyone else's vision.
I love the bribes. I wish I had bribes when I got crits before.
I think you drawing a day has been extremely successful, at least for the viewer. To see how you grow and are inspired and the subtle things that help the creations along. I love them. And almost two months!!
I especially like the one influenced by nebo and the "brain" one. The former is quite lovely and memories deserve a special notation like that!!
oh, i love the brain drawing...lovely! i really like the way you're using the yellow thread too...i think it encourages extra looking:-)
as always, i'm inspired by your daily drawings and dedicated work ethic...
and yes, the bribes work!
ill be so sad when you are done with these! :) but surely, there will be a new something to replace this series, no? :)
criticism is always so difficult, no matter what the arena! although, I imagine in this setting it can be quite the challenge. so delicate, yes? but important to say what needs to be said... sounds like an interesting mix of students, too.
on the subject of your drawings-- your work is inspiring to me and I have loved witnessing the progression, so enjoyed hearing you talk about them...!
