Lisa's Musings

who's driving this thing?

doily 2217 drawing

above is the piece i'm donating to southern exposure's auction - Optic Illusion - this year. their auctions are always really fun events to attend. happening tomorrow night from 6-10pm. i won't be there this year but it's a great great chance to scoop up work by great artists. more info here .

also jan / poppytalk posted a little q/a about my studio on design sponge the other day. it's here . thanks for asking me jan. it's been really fun to read and see all the studios on the guest blog .

have a great weekend. gardening is in my future.

hi there. i didn't mean for it to be a week since i last posted, but ... so it goes.

first up i'd like to thank erin from design for mankind for including me in her dailies project . a day in my life can be seen here. reminded me of when i did a similar thing for self-portrait tuesday

seth koen

last week i went to go see my friend seth koen's show at gregory lind gallery . seth was a year ahead of me in graduate school so i've been fortunate enough to see his work progress for quite some time [we're in a critique group together as well].

i think what i love most about seth's work is the purity of it. he takes simple simple shapes - like circles and ovals - and makes me really pay attention to them. every small choice - in color, in material, in size, in placement - becomes oh so much more important.

the last few years seth has been crocheting. creating these soft sculptures that hint at masculinity [or the lack/deflation of]. the colors would remind me of sports teams, or tube socks. his work also often spoke to relationships... how things [people] might be tied together, who carries more weight... how we can be pulled taught, rest together, tied over distance, etc.

for this show seth decided to hand carve these really delicate maple sculptures. they are so thin. so fragile - and they cast amazing shadows [of course i was drawn to this]. they speak to the same ideas, but it's a perfect example of where your material choice matters most. hard rather than soft i begin to think about how the shapes and pieces relate in a new way.

but for me the most successful pieces were the ones that incorporated both the crochet and the wood. there is something so impossible, so wrong, so odd, so childlike about the combination that just grabbed me. i felt like the two components really worked.

seth koen 2

my favorite piece from the show.

you can see the entire exhibition here

it feels to me like seth is on that precipice. i think all artists like their latest body of work the best. it's like an instinctual gut reaction. for me it's rare when something "sticks" for an extended period of time. often times i find myself with one foot in an old body of work and one foot in a new body of work. trying to make that cross over between areas seems terrifying and new and exciting. seth is there - but his transition is graceful - and integrated. i'm really excited to see where he goes next.

have a good monday!

there's a new beholder

hi there.

the beholder has just re-launched their website! in addition to some paint chip pieces, i've put up all the inedible cupcake series from the i want sugar show. my plan is to update the beholder with work now and again that is for sale. i'll try to remember to announce here if something new is going up.... here is my info page.

my pal timothy buckwalter curated their first online show - and was nice enough to include me. i love his theme. hint [if you like echo and the bunneymen - click quick]

jen has some work on there too - as do a host of great artists... it's fun to get lost in that site....

one great link. i'm not even sure how i found this - but i'm LOVING wil freeborn/ghostschool. his drawings in his moleskine are so wonderful.

hope your week is off to a good start!

winter white :: diana fayt

for shari's winter white week. it's been so lovely seeing white pop here and there in blogland

delicate ceramics by the lovely and talented diana fayt . she gave me them along with her amazing calendar a little bit ago. they have tiny impressions in them. the ceramic is paper thin. epitomize delicate. you can still get a calendar for yourself!

diana also has a great new blog . have you seen it?

i'm fighting a cold. i don't want it to win.

my studio visits went well. now i just have to plot and plan. {i'll give you some sneak peeks soon}

lisa and i have a theme for our show at airstream studios . we just need to research. i also got a piece of lisa's art. i'll photo it soon. but i feel very lucky. i didn't get any photos, but i have a serious crush on wilfredo . he's also the best dressed pup i've ever met.

tomorrow is the first crit for my creative process class. i better bring ricola.

have you seen these sophisticated wall stickers by harmonie-interieure ?

have a good thursday!

dead man

for abby's beautiful film week

jim jarmusch is an all time favorite director and Dead Man is full of such amazing imagery.... i love the scene on the right - i've never seen a dead person look so hauntingly beautiful. plus the plaid suit johnny depp wears is beyond perfect. this is a movie that i'm glad was not made in color.

i was just "talking" to someone about how i tend to remember/like movies that aren't happy. i like darker, sadder, slice of life movies.... not sure what this says about me but it seems to be true.

mama i'm tired

please think good thoughts for my little tonka. he had surgery today. i will miss his snoring in bed tonight.... i hope you get to come home tomorrow.... i'm sorry you'll have to wear an e-collar yet again. sigh

and a few links....
i haven't met viola yet, but i hope to. she just launched her website chewing the cud . very sweet

sarajo frieden updated her website. she'll have a show at little bird soon.....

and ... did you know the library of congress is on flickr ?!?!?!?!

happy mid week.

red shari

so... it's hard to describe meeting shari . if you read her blog you feel like you know her. when i have met other blog friends, they just seem more of what they are like online. with shari, she is as kind, sweet, thoughtful and quietly funny as you might think [anyone who can name bands the measles and the mumps is kosher in my book]. she thought she was too quiet for our meet-up - but honestly we were in a big group of folks. many of whom can hold a room full of attention no problem. her traveling companions joe and tom were quick witted and very fun... i felt as though our group - including kathleen and aurora had known each other for much longer than we actually had. it's the beauty and sadness of these types of meet-ups. thrown together for span of time w/ a common allegiance knowing that the grouping is temporary... which really only makes it sweeter, no? i feel super lucky as shari will soon be coming to calif. for a visit and we will then have some one on one time.

shari brought me the most AMAZING books. the one on heath that i have been eying for ages, and this amazing collection of cool indian stuff . and some chocolate. swoon. thank you friend!

despite the missing art, aurora and i DID get to see a little bit of nashville. i haven't been anywhere in awhile where everyone KNEW we were not from the area.... it seemed like we were exotic species coming from california and new york. ha!

hatch show print

one of the highlights of the trip was our visit to hatch show print . an amazing print studio. what i wouldn't do to work there.

hatch cat chair

the arcade - where sq ft lives - is this very neat old fashioned mall. i had fun looking at the old type, other galleries, and nooks and crannies there. [are you noticing how many of these photos are ending up as diptychs? couplets on the brain] BTW. there is a nice write up of our show by david maddox here

oriental lunch

privatenextdoor

54 decco

rainbow cast

artists/designers are also using the shops as their work spaces. quite nice.

and a few shots of nashville:

sunrecords

i don't think this is the real location of sun records at least not anymore? but one they set up for the country music museum [my guess as it was close by]. just thinking about johnny cash and sun records made me happy

jacks bbq

can't go to the south without eating BBQ. jacks bbq is what we sampled.

tomkats

godly light

shari has a day shot of this place!

two step

and there you have it.

started teaching last week [where did my break go?]. i'm excited to be teaching creative process again. it's a free for all class - 2D, 3D all media - and so it's really fun. plus it has a lot of non-art majors in it - always makes for lively discussions and approaches.

finally - i wrote our last post on amy hempel's book for ship of fools . if you are interested in joining in the book club next round we have to pick a new book. help us decide!

happy weekend!

camilla - how'd i do?

i made this for aurora's new baby. i followed [or at least tried to] camilla's instructions that she gave on whip-up awhile back.

these are totally addicting to make. i want to make a smaller one now. maybe while i'm on the plane?

i'm sitting [at this ungodly hour - infomertials are on TV] and waiting for the shuttle to take me to the airport. i'm going to nashville.... to meet kathleen and hang my show with aurora at square foot .

there are a few reasons this all seems bitter sweet. i'm so so happy to finally see aurora again and meet kathleen AND meet shari face to face for the first time. she is coming down with T and a friend. it's hard to believe that tomorrow i can actually just SAY something to her.

but sadly we are the last show at square foot. and i'm also feeling as though i should be closer to home. if only i could be in 2 places at once - heck - if we're going to do that - than why not 4 or 5 huh?

more on the show [and nashville, etc] over the next few days as long as i have decent internet access....

happy happy new year to everyone.... and thanks for all the virtual hugs for my last post....

see bug work

the famous bug was here last week. i was so happy to have her around. i feel kind of bad as i was buried under a big old pile of stuff i had to get done. but being ever so accommodating miss gwen went with the flow. i feel very very lucky to have such a friend - it's not every day that someone says - i just want to be with you. so whatever you need to do, we'll do. and it's not every day that i feel comfortable allowing someone into my space like that.

gwen is a pretty special gal.

we sewed :: we graded :: we had dueling laptops on my dining room table :: she knitted :: she sewed :: i sewed :: we chatted :: we ate :: we had tiki drinks :: we met up with lisa c and diana . she had the brilliant idea to use my tanks on some skirts....

you can see those and read gwen's take on our adventures over here

we didn't just work. we did play [otherwise we'd be dull girls].

buttons

i took her to the secret button store. i was only supposed to look as i have buttons from my last visit there i still haven't used, but alas. i succumbed to temptation. i think the blue ones will make a necklace and the bakelite orange ones will become pins....

heath {polaroid version}

we also went to heath . i think i'm the official bring everyone from out of town to heath wagon. the lady in the store even recognized me from the visit with amy!

above is a shot of their colorway chips and a wall of their plates. i can't say enough about how good their aesthetic is. so good that they carry miss sally's cards!

gwen - come back - anytime...

::::::::::::::::::::::

i'm kind of in a bah humbug kind of mood. no decorations this year. just can't fathom it. i have one more big stack of grading and a few more holiday cards/treats to get out. and the big push for my nashville show. almost almost almost. i've had no time for posting here, movies, flickr, reading [barely getting to blogs], real shopping, taking photos [i miss this so much], or.... but i'm letting it all go. there's only so much a single human can do, right?

i do feel like i can see the light at the end of the tunnel if i squint. yup. there it is.

ok - off i go to tackle my lists. type more soon.....

Labels: ,

sketchbook mums

i had to draw them .

today i made a list of things i need to get done [funny that one thing on the list was make a gift list. a list contained. why do i find that so funny? i'm a dork]. i got scared and had to bury said list in the bottom of my purse. i might have to micro manage my lists. that seems pathetic [dork, again]. but then again derek and lauren make it [multi-listing] look so so good .

i fell in love with this little camera. it's so darn cute. it would make me feel like agent 99 from get smart. do i need another electronic gadget? no. but i have such a love of mini mini things. hmmmm.

shybird by Nathan Lynch

i went and saw my friend Nathan's show at johansson projects on friday. it was stunning. these sad and comical minimal birds wearing fake beaks. who are they trying to be? the subtle contrasts in textures and colors and the absurdity just hit me in the right spot....

funky finds just posted a stitch re-cap [so many great crafty things! i have to go back to finish clicking to all the stuff] and she's offering a a giveaway just comment on the post!

lastly hannah asked me about what offset printer i used... answer is in the comments of the last post....

i got me some heath

how long has it been since i posted a corner of my home? a very very long time.

i brought home a couple of lovely wares from heath ceramics in sausalito. their store is so lovely. the people that work there are so kind. if i had an endless pit of money how much would i love to have a table full of heathware?

i love heath ceramics 2

i love heath ceramics

sigh

i'm way way way behind on some thank yous. i'm going to try and catch up here.... and i'm missing images [entire folders of photos seemed to have disappeared from my hard drive. harumph!] and i'm fearful i'm going to miss someone... so please forgive me if i do...

«« jenny , thanks for your amazing package - i can't believe i get to hold the drawing in my hands - along with all the other goodies!!

«« esoule and i traded. i got this . i love it. so much.

«« babel sent me a stack of good things to flip through and fawn over. and a bauble for my finger [always appreciated]. i have a stack to send out to her. soon soon soon. i am behind on mailing. so behind.

«« forever ago bug sent an amazing array of hoops, old time clothespins, sunglasses, a wrap skirt and a pair of THESE - which i had when i was a kid and so dearly love. they make a certain sound when you walk. clunk clunk.

«« for no reason at all liz sent me this photo . it is so amazing. noir - scary, but also delicate... that tape measure.... dangling.....

AND IN BLOGLAND

«« have you seen jen's book ?????? wow. i've been working on a 7x7 blurb book too, but not quite finished. hers is just stunning.

«« you have until TOMORROW to sign up for the ornament swap . kathleen and nicole are genius'. i so want to sign up - but i don't know if i can actually pull off a good ornament.... hmmmm

«« k.c. has been really rocking the links lately [well she always rocks them, but...] give tokyo polaroids a second look....

«« creature comforts has a great holiday guide

«« shari will be interviewing a host of creative folks this year just like she did last year.....

«« amy had her book signing tonight. [i don't think we can over-gush about this book] did anyone make it? would love to hear about it!

and so you don't curse me forever i will stop linking now. more soon....

hemlock bud

this little hemlock bud is going to be donated to eireann's auction :: one in ten . this is one of those moments where i'm proud to be part of a community that supports one another. you can read more about it on the one in ten site, but eireann's mom suffered an aneurysm - and is making a miraculous recovery. please please help. there are SO MANY gorgeous things that will be up for sale. [i have my eye on several things].

i am completely overwhelmed by your response to my show. thank you for being interested at all in what i do. it's really wonderful. in the comments a couple of people wanted to know more about the work. i think artists often don't really like to talk about their own work - and i'm no exception. but.... i tried to go into a bit more depth about both the pieces and what i am thinking about in making them. you'll find that in the comments of that last post.

so feeling kind of numbery around here.... i was tagged... by dandelion , kathleen , and initially by hannah for the 8 things about you meme. i'm not very good at these sorts of things, but i'll give it a try....

one «« much to the dismay of my dad, i have no interest in dancing. it's not that i don't appreciate the act of dancing - nor do i make fun of those who go out and cut a rug [in fact i think it's great to be so free]. but it's just not fun to me. the exception to make this rule was that i really liked dancing in obon festivals when i was a kid [i also liked my tap dancing class. a lot actually].

two «« sometimes i wish i was a singer in a band [too bad i can't write a song to save my life]

three «« sometimes i wish i had a trust fund

four «« i loathe exercising - the planned go to the gym kind. i love walking or swimming or any number of other activities - just don't ask to see me in a leotard.

five «« i used to have really really really long hair. to the middle of my back long. this seems so not me now - my hair hasn't touched my shoulders in over 15 years.

six «« sometimes i wish i was a florist. that all i did all day is play with flowers. and NOTHING else.

seven «« i am notorious for making stupid faces at cameras. i hate having my picture taken [it's a bit better if i take a self portrait]. there are countless pictures of me with my tongue sticking out, my nose scrunched, my hands over my face....

eight «« i am a minimalist stuck in a pack rat body. if i could just keep buying stuff and had limitless storage i would probably re-do my house over and over [and clear out a lot of stuff - just put it in rotation]. i love setting up still-lives or finding the perfect thing to balance out a collection. i also hate clutter [but make it and live with it]. ideally i'd have rooms with different flavors : the modern room, the euro cottage room, the bright palette room....

phew - i made it to eight!! i almost thought about just seeing if there were questions anyone wanted me to answer like blair just did. but then what if no one had any questions ?? i don't think there's anyone else to tag, but - if you want to divulge 8 things and haven't already - please use this as your excuse!

anyway - who knows - maybe i'll make it to two posts this week. i'm frantically trying to update my website in order to make an announcement. wish me luck.

seating

but i really don't want to believe that. i just got thru the last of my one-to-one meetings with my professional practice students [15 minutes each. they had to present their cover letters, resumes, portfolios and website]. word of the day is consitency. some of them are ready and some of them are not. and i have to let that go. i can only do so much in 10 sessions minutes before they graduate.

above is a photo from the wedding over the weekend. it was hot. it was on a lake, in a vineyard, everything was tinged in earth tones. you can see a bit more here .

squirrel for gracia

this little squirrel - a prize that gracia won {eons ago - i'm so sorry for the delay}. landed safe in the other hemisphere. i think he will be most happy amongst all the critters in gracia and louise's welcoming home....

and i have my own laundry list of thank yous to accomplish:: [deep breath]
recent goodies

from the top.... a surprise [which could really suit me no better] from camilla - or more accurately a hug from sweden. i just sent her a kiss back, so hopefully it will arrive safe too.

row 2 :: books [and passes to moca!!] from annabelle. pictured on a right is a detail of the work of liz larner . also right up my alley.

row 3 - left :: marieke and i traded. swoon. i actually want it to be cold so i can wear the adorable hand warmers. and she threw in so many extra goodies. thank you sweet one!

row 3 - right :: vintage buttons of the most amazing variety from paula

row 4 :: once again dear bablefish has provided eye candy of the UK variety. sigh

row 5 :: the ever so kind abigail sent along absolute delights - more fashion inspriation, some colored pens, her kraft paper prints {!!!} and adorable moo cards, and 2 silk bobbins all the way from france {sigh}. i think they are getting along nicely w/ my giant bobbin, no?

row 6 - left :: i met with lisa c the other week hoping to teach her how to crochet . [i hope you are practicing lisa!] and she brought a bag full of goodies. lucky me.

row 6 - right :: amisha sent along a bar of lilac cocoa butter soap. [that's her picture btw]. if you have been lucky enough to try her soaps - it's hard to go back to store bought once you have. she is travelling, but perhaps with some nudging we can get her to sell her soap sometime soon.

i also need to thank christine who sent the nicest easter goodies - how long ago was that??!! [of which all were devoured] and of which i never properly photo'd.

i have a feeling i'm forgetting someone - so if i have - forgive me. my mind is awhirl. there is so much going on right now i think i might burst - but i'll save that for my next post. [where i will promtply pulverize, shoot out of the screen, and make a mess of all your monitors]

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

AND.... if you need something to go visit. i just finished helping artist Jen Garrido design/launch her website

is it really wednesday?

hello disney hall

in case you didn't get enough of the blue sky from the last set of photos.

what to tell you? let's make a list ::

you say potato, i say pot-ta-to, let's have gelato

over 100 flavors of gelato!!!!

1. eating desserts and laughing till you cheeks hurt are very good things. till next time wenders , ky , christine [happy anniversary!!], regina [who does great voices], and ms. blackburn who, by the way, made this cake and sangria [dangerous stuff that sangria]:

polenta cake with blood red oranges

2. meeting melissa was like seeing an old friend. we must have known each other in another life.... seeing her gallery space made me excited and nervous about the show i'm going to have there. [in october - please come!!]

3. seeing the andrea zittel show restored my faith in art. oh my was that ever one of the most lovely shows i've seen. what i respond to most in her work is the fact that she is so incredibly conceptual and intellectual and responsible. her ideas are just that good. and then she makes these GORGEOUS things. whoever says conceptual art isn't aesthetic hasn't spent any time with miss zittel's work. i had a big big art crush and it's only bigger now.

4. if you are in the LA vicinity.... PLEASE go see the poetics of the handmade . i walked through this show twice. and i don't ever do that. obsessive, hand crafted beautiful work on a grand grand scale.... just look at this . i really really fell in love with Máximo González's installation [no good pics on the moca website]. i could have spent all day in there....{giant thanks to annabelle who sent me passes to the museum}

5. spending time with my grandma, eating good food, talking politics and of course shopping - is such a treat. especially when you get to go home with these . i got other cool stuff too, but those pants just make me giggle every time!

um... so what else? shari posted our documentary project on monday.... and karen posted our last on beauty section on ship .

the mail has been good to me again of late.... will try to get to that this week. happy hump day! one final shot from down south:

underdog ink :: new jewels

it seems like there is a lot going on this week....
mav has some new stuff cooking on the press ....
sally opens her shop tomorrow! ...
martha has an update planned too ...
shanna has a new home ...
lisa and stephanie have a show at doe on friday night {and stephanie sadly says good-bye... we'll miss you!} ...
jenny's new line just launched on modishoppe

i've been playing with beads. i actually made all the above a while back, but couldn't manage to update underdog until recently. there's all the new jewels above, tree notes, and spring style shirts are re-stocked {there's also a couple new color combos}. baby rhino T's are also re-stocked. so if you are looking for a mother's day gift... well - there's a lot out there, no? [not that you have to buy from me - but support small artists if you can!] all bloggy friends get free first class shipping from me! i'll either refund your paypal account or email me for a separate invoice.

the documentary project is on shari's today.

enjoy the rest of your monday!

cliffs :: wildwest

i'm going to go all over the place with this post....

ONE :: i really enjoyed all the responses to "collection". dawn shared some of her collections which was great. camilla has an art project that has to do with collections. it seems like many of us here in blogland have a penchant for them. i have a feeling this subject shall pop up again [aren't i supposed to show you all my rings?]

TWO :: above is one the last of my albuquerque pictures. [wow that seems like eons ago now]. the last day we were there we went to cliff's amusement park .

i have to say.... it kind of seemed like a west coast version of coney island . except for that it's the simulacra of it. [ok - if you haven't been subjected to baudrillard's simulacra theory - this will make no sense - but if you have....] does this make cliff's a double simulacra? of course you must first believe the suggestion that disneyland [all amusement parks] are simulacras - but i do subscribe to that notion. so then is cliff's a simulacra of a simulacra [can you say that 10 times fast?] is that like a DOUBLE NEGATIVE? i can't quite wrap my head around what that might mean, but it sounds all heady and philosophical no? for more coney island goodness you can see my photos from my visit there here . and you can see the lovely abee's drool worthy coney island materpieces here . then compare them to cliff's and see what you think.

THREE :: theoretical mishaps and meanderings seem to be all the rage with me the last few day. this is what happens to me when i don't get enough studio time. my mind goes on overdrive - i can't MAKE stuff so i THINK stuff. the entire gruelling commute this morning i was trying to be zen - to not get angry with the endless line of autos and the idiots that cut everyone off - and thus my mind started to race... i look for similarities in things - how things might relate to one another [oh that song has the word that shari and i are documenting this week!]. i make stupid geeky puns to myself that no one else would even smirk at. i wonder about the the farm bill and how we as a nation can continue to subgigate the poor to the worst possible food choices .

ok - enough talk? more pictures? i'm happy to oblidge.

cliffs :: yellowtable

cliffs :: gal[axy]

cliffs_ferris

cliffs :: clown

cliffs :: eat

i think this one is one of my favorites from the trip.

ok. i gotta get back to work.... have a good thursday!

*update* i forgot to mention it ain't fittin' is on display through the 30th at the atlantic center for the arts in new smyrna beach, florida. renee also has a piece in the show! *end of update*

i have another couple of rounds of images from my trip. but before i get to those... i :: am :: glad :: to :: know i am not alone.

i was just writing to liz [who is working on the incredible crane project ] about how taking pictures has changed my point of view. i never would have thought in a million years that i would be this interested in photography. but i am. i never would have guessed at how profoundly looking through view finders would change what i notice in the world, or my field of vision. but... well there you have it.

if you are interested there's an attempt at a post by me over on ship . i am still feeling like words are not with me [they aren't against me either - they just aren't clammering around and putting themselves into pretty little packages].

jason's :: ahoy

jason's :: plant

jason's :: dogheart

jason's :: weeds

it's funny to see these all lined up... the tone is so similar.... happy weekend friends!

here they come

i'm in that cross off 2 add 4 things to the list stage. it might be partially because we are leaving to attend the closing of my show at the richard levy gallery .... [happens on saturday evening - if anyone can/wants to come]. any time a trip is on the agenda things get a little wacky... it might also be because i started teaching a brand new to me class today - professional practices. it's funny because i've now taught long enough at one place to have repeat students. i have a feeling a few of them in the class are none to happy to have me again [i am hard on them and demanding]. oh well. i feel as though 10 sessions in 10 weeks is not enough time to really cover what needs to happen in the class. but again. oh well.

above is one project i almost get to cross off the list [must order pins]. the next tank installation is ready to go! woo. tomorrow i pick up some very weird glue that i hope will adhere 1/16" acrylic dowels to glass. i've tried 4 other glues so far and none have worked. sigh. according to this to that loctite should work [fingers crossed]. this is what is both fun and excruciating about making art. finding the tools/supplies that will work and implementing them in ways that don't compromise your original vision.

OH! please go visit an online exhibition i curated for my very talented friend timothy buckwatler . we showed his work at a gallery i used to work at - and i think he's really a funny, smart, talented guy. [and he's selling his drawings for really reasonable prices!] the show i curated is called delusions of grandeur.

and... elsewhere in blogland.... the documentary project was on shari's blog yesterday, ash posted on ship last friday, and we introduced 3 new contributors to sew green yesterday.

i've gotta motor as i'm giving a lecture on web design to a friend's class tonight and i have to prep some material... i'm not sure what my internet access will be like over the next few days - so if i don't post - that's what's up!

here's a polaroid for the road:

bablefish is a great source of inspiration. there are always good posts about design, art, etc. on her blog. one day she lamented that she couldn't get anthropologie catalogues in the UK. thinking that was a minor tragedy i offered to send her a few. and a deal was struck. US to UK magazine/catalogue swapping. woo hoo. i was really excited b/c i had heard so much buzz buzz about habitat and now i get to see why w/ my own eyes. that catalogue is seriously swoon worthy. along w/ the mags she sent the most adorable wallet [which i am going to use for travelling!!] and mini colored pencils. [we all know how anything mini makes me dance around]. what's more - those came in a muji bag. when is their store opening in NY? [not fast enough]

the adorable bookmark, amazingly soft neck warmer [in the perfect color w/ ORANGE buttons!!] and delectable skein of hand spun yard came from natasha . just because. if you touch her yarn you will want to make things with it. it's so amazing. i can't get over the colors either.... you can get your own here .

pink stag

when i saw abigail's stag on whip up i gasped. and then i gasped again when she sent it to me....

oh i'm a lucky lucky girl.

i've been thinking a lot about martha's post on obsession and maria's post on alter egos . good food for fodder. i am wondering if we should all reveal our alter egos and obsessions....

happy thurs!

happy birthday lisa bird

thurs night was spent celebrating a birthday for a special bird . we passed the time drinking sparkly wine, eating delicious homemade sushi, and chatting about all things crafty, worldy, arty, and social. there is nothing like spending time with extra , smart , special, wonderfully wacky women. women who are fearless. women who have a sense of humor. women who defend one another. women who are creative and sensitive and caring with every inch of their beings.

ambiance

it is so special to be in someone like diana's home . everything is cared for. eating off dishes she crafted with her own hands is such a treat. [i want my own set darn it!]. and she is an amazing hostess. never a dry glass or an empty plate or a story-less minute.

blogger gals

as someone who can easily coccoon and recluse it is nights like these where i remember how important human contact can be. how we humans really are pack animals to an extent. and how sometimes it is the act of laughing, sharing, listening, eating TOGETHER that can recharge your battery. thank you friends. thank all of you. i'm working my way back into inhabiting this space as i need and want to.

definitely go check out ship of fools . the adorable karen has joined our ship and wrote a fantastic post yesterday. i have to grab my book and comment. she really got me thinking!
