If you are looking for a more personal experience, definitely reach out to your local legislators. Guess what? If there is an election with an imcumbent running, they are the most responsive to your inquiries! In San Francisco, there is a Board of Supervisors. The district you live in changes periodically, so you can lookup the current Board Member assigned to you on the SF Planning website: sfplanninggis.org
